mraja2Dr. Mohamed Mraja is the Dean, School of Arts & Social Sciences, Bomet University College (BUC). He is a DAAD alumnus who obtained his PhD in Islamic studies from the Albert Ludwigs University, Freiburg, Germany. His is a Postdoc Fellow of the University of Cape Town, South Africa and an established Researcher with the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, University of Bayreuth, Germany. Dr. Mraja is also a Panelist in the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in the area of Religious Education. His research interests include Religion and Marriage, Family law, Education, Environment, Health, Radicalization and Muslim Religious Authorities. ChembeaDr. Chembea holds a PhD in Islamic studies from the University of Bayreuth, Germany; a Master of Arts in Religion and a Bachelor of Education (Arts), both from Moi University, Kenya. His research interests lay in the interface between Muslim Religious Endowments (Awqaf) and Muslim Social welfare politics in secular state milieus; on Muslim-Christian relations; on Religion and migration and Religious extremism. Dr. Chembea held the position of Visiting Research Fellow at the African Studies Center, (ASC), Leiden, University of Netherlands in 2019 as well as the Early Career Researcher of Islam in Africa, a mentorship program of the Institute of Islamic Thought in Africa (ISITA), Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois since 2019. seweProf. Tabitha Sewe is a visiting Proffessor who has 35 years experience in education as well as in parastatal organisations .She has grown from the level of an assistant lecturer to associate professor of communication while in these institutions. She has engaged in research and management work, providing leadership at various levels. She has mentored students and staffs who today hold senior management positions to her credit. rechaCharles W. Recha is a climatologist with research interests in climate variability, seasonal climate forecasts, soil water conservation, livelihoods, and socio-cultural contexts of climate change. He is a Senior Lecturer of Geography and Head of Postgraduate Studies, Partnerships and Linkages at Bomet University College, Kenya. Prior to this, Dr. Recha was a lecturer (2011-2021), Director of International Linkages and Career Services (2019-2021) and Chairperson Geography Department (2014-2019) at Egerton University, Kenya. Dr. Recha is a recipient of research projects and awards that include a C.V Raman Visiting Fellow at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India (2018); a post-doctoral Fellow at Lund University, Sweden (2016); Australia Africa Award Fellow, University of Queensland (2014-2015), Young Researchers Grant of International Foundation for Science (2012) and a doctoral research fellow with the Africa Climate Change Fellowship Programme (ACCFP) (ICRISAT-Mali) (2009/2010). Dr. Recha has published peer reviewed short communications (2), book chapters (4) and journal articles (28). According to google scholar, Dr. Recha has been cited 419 times with an h-index of 9 as of June 2023. He has since 2013 supervised to completion nine (9) postgraduate students (4 PhDs, 5 masters) and he’s a member of the Kenya Meteorological Society. Dr Recha has peer reviewed manuscripts for journals and been involved in various short course trainings and workshops. DrOhiamboThe Rev. Sgt. Rtd. Dr. Elijah Onyango Standslause Odhiambo is a multifaceted person who integrate virtues, theory and practice in his lectures. He has vast security experience, An Anglican priest, lecturer, motivational speaker and researcher in International and National Security for Sustainable Peace, Geo-politics, Governance, Development, Diplomacy and International Relations, Foreign Policy, Conflict Management & Transformation, Terrorism & Counter-Terrorism, Violent extremism, Radicalization and Psycho-Social Support Services. My previous roles continues to strengthen my abilities in collaboration and innovation, including a focused attention to detail and accuracy. Currently a lecturer in the department of Arts, Governance and Communication Studies, Bomet University College, Kenya. I hold Ph. D in Diplomacy &International Relations (DIR)., Msc. in Conflict Resolution and Management both from Masinde Muliro University of Science &Technology, Kenya., Post Graduate Certificate in Disarmament for Development Open University of Catalonia-Barcelona, Spain., Bachelor of Divinity and Diploma in Theology from St Paul’s University, Kenya. I worked for Kenya Defence forces (KDF) from 1994 to June 2016 (22) years. Was a lay Leader in the Church from 1999-2001 and ordained in holy orders in 2002. I have worked on part time basis for medium and higher learning institutions from 2010. I have a passion and have trained different actors in managing conflicts. I am results-oriented, high-energy, and have hands on using Statists and Non-Statist Actors in initiating and following up mediation processes, intra and inter conflict resolution among adversarial groups, organizing conflict resolution trainings, monitor change and translate into appropriate planning and action in line with good understanding of conflict transformation. Have and continue researching and teaching in these critical areas. Have been in the academia for more than 10 years during this time have engaged in conferences presentations of which others became policy papers, done consultancies and training for diverse actors. Has researched and published widely in these sub-fields with over 60 peer-reviewed publications. Our programmes and mode of delivery are geared towards the vision, mission and our niche which is Green University for Sustainability of Bomet University College. Have supervised and continue to mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students and candidates. My global academic impact according to Google Scholar citation is 119, h-index of 7 and i10-index of 5. I have taught and continue teaching at all levels (Certificate to Ph.D). ayonjaFlorence Muteheli Anyonje is a Lecturer of Kiswahili Methods in the School of Arts and Social Science, and currently Head of Department Geography,Environment and Development Studies, Bomet University College. She holds a PhD in Education Communication and Technology from Moi University, a Master degree in Curriculum Instruction and Educational Media (Kiswahili Methods) from Moi University and a Bachelor of Education degree (Kiswahili/CRE) from Kenyatta University. Dr Anyonje has worked with TSC from 1990 to 2021 and served in schools like Kivaywa Boys, Shikunga Secondary, Chwele Girls’, Bungoma Muslim and most recently Lugari Diploma Teachers Training College, where she is the pioneer Teaching Practice Coordinator. Dr Anyonje has several publications in peer reviewed journals and is a member of Kenya Association of Education Managers, Chama cha Kiswahili cha Afrika Mashariki (CHAKAWAMA),Kenya Oral Literature Association (KOLA) and a life member of Kenya Red Cross.Dr Anyonje is currently the BOM Chairperson of St Stephen Namulungu Sec School. jamesowinoDr. James O. Owino is a Geography Lecturer in the School of Arts and Social Sciences Department of Geography, Environment and Development Studies, Bomet University College. He holds a PhD in Environmental Studies (Human Ecology) from University of Eldoret-Kenya, a Master’s of Science Degree in Environmental Studies (Human Ecology) and a Bachelor of Science Degree (Forestry) from Moi University-Kenya. Further he holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from Kenyatta University-Kenya, a Certificate in Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit from Moi University-Kenya. He is a lead expert with National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and a member of Environmental institute of Kenya and Nature Kenya. Dr. Owino was a Pioneer Lecturer of a Master’s Programme in Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability, a partnership between Amoud University, Somaliland and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). He has taught Geography and Environment related courses at various Kenyan Universities including Kisii University, Laikipia University and University of Eldoret. Besides teaching experience, he has successfully supervised several Masters Students to completion. His research interest includes Climate Change, Natural Resource Management and Livelihood Diversification Strategies among Rural Communities. tiberiusDr. Tiberius Barasa is experienced and driven Policy Researcher and Analyst with an impressive
background of managing policy research and advocacy while providing teaching and learning support within research institutions and universities. He has worked to address public problems and develop successful policies and programs. He has over 18 years’ experience in designing and executing research, policy analysis and training programs. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Maseno University, an MBA from ESAMI and Maastricht School of Management, MPS from Universities of Fort Hare and Zimbabwe, a BA (Hons.) from University of Zimbabwe. His research interests are in public policy particularly in governance, health, education, human rights, and energy. He has been a guest lecturer in a number of universities in Africa including the University of Botswana (Botswana), University of Joss (Nigeria), and Egerton University (Kenya). He has published several books and journals with leading publishers including International Journal of Recent Research in Social Sciences and Humanities (IJRRSSH) (2017); Focus 2017; Edward Elgar, UK and USA (2014); CODESRIA, GLASCSO and IDEAs (2014); Routledge, London and New York (2013); UNESCO and IIEP (2011); and Institute of Policy Analysis and Research (2006-2010). Dr MULALU PROFILE PICTURE Dr Wanyonyi Mulalu is a Linguist with research interest in morphosyntax of Bantu languages. Currently he is a Lecturer of Kiswahili in the Department of Arts, Governance and Communication Studies, Bomet University College. He has also worked with the Teachers service commission from 1995 to 2020 as a high school teacher of Kiswahili at St Mathias Busia Secondary school and Moi Girls’ Kamusinga, and later as a Curriculum Support Officer in Nandi County, Nandi North sub-county. Dr Mulalu holds a PhD and an MA in Kiswahili studies and a B.Ed from Moi University ( Eldoret ). He has worked with KNEC as an examiner for Kiswahili pp2. He has researched and published various papers in language structure in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Mulalu is a member of Chama cha Kiswahili cha Kitaifa and a founding member of the Language Association of East Africa. Monica passport photoDr. Monica Oloo Oluoch Holds a PhD in Linguistics from Maseno University, Kenya, a Master of Philosophy inLinguistics from Moi University, Kenya and Bachelor of Education (Arts) in English and Literature from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Research interests lie in the fields of Critical Discourse Analysis, Semantics, Pragmatics and the role of language in peacebuilding. Served with TSC as a graduate teacher for 21 years, has done part time teaching in Mount Kenya University, Moi University and University of Eldoret. Has been a lecturer at Africa Nazarene University. gakuoDr. Kariuki Joseph Gakuo has a Bachelor of education (Bed) Arts (Honors), in Kiswahili, Philosophy & Religious studies from Moi University. His graduate training was from the same University where he obtained his Master of Philosophy in Kiswahili. He later completed his Ph.D. in Kiswahili in Kenyatta University, where his research focus was on “Changamoto Zinazokumba Ufasiri na Uhakiki wa Ushairi wa Kiswahili Miongoni mwa Wanafunzi wa Sekondari Nchini Kenya” a case study of Trans Nzoia and Mombasa County.Kariuki is a Senior Lecturer in Bomet University in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Department Art, Governance and Communication Studies. Prior to this, he has been a lecturer in Kenyatta University in the Department of Kiswahili and African Languages for eleven years. He has been a long serving high school teacher (20 years) rising all the way to position of Senior Principal head Teacher with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), before joining University as a part time and later full-time member of academic staff. Kariuki has been involved in the teaching and research of Kiswahili the Lingua franca of East and Central Africa. He has been involved in furthering the knowledge of Kiswahili in Uganda where he served as a lecturer and H.O.D for Kiswahili as well as in Africa’s youngest country- South Sudan. In South Sudan, he played the pivotal role as the Chief Consultant for Secondary School Kiswahili Curriculum. He is a member of several Professional bodies such as Chama cha Kiswahili cha Taifa (CHAKITA), an association that brings together all the stakeholders of Kiswahili in Kenya and other East and Central African countries, Chama cha Kiswahili cha Afrika Mashariki (CHAKAMA), an association that works closely with The Commission for East African Community to enhance the Development and Growth of Kiswahili Language in the East African region and beyond, Chama cha Ukuzaji wa Kiswahili Duniani (CHAUKIDU) an international association that seeks to enhance and promote the growth of Kiswahili globally, just to name a few. Kariuki served Kenyatta University through several committees and sub committees. For instance, he served in the Kenyatta University Accommodation Committee, Student’s Accommodation Disciplinary Committee. In the Kiswahili Department, he served in various sub committees such as Timetabling, Student Registration, Postgraduate, Field Course, Journal, and Outreach just to mention a few. waiganjoDr. Anthony Gathambîri Waiganjo is a lecturer at Bomet University College (A constituent college of Moi University) in the School of Arts and Social Sciences. He is a scholar in Gender studies. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome (2007); Master of Arts (Gender Studies), University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (2015); and a PhD in Gender Studies, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (2018). His key research interests are Gender Studies, Gender and Development, Transnationalism, Intersectionality, Refugees studies, and feminism. He is the author of “The President”, a book weaved along gender trajectories. His main teaching interests are Gender, Feminism, globalization and Development. Dr. Obala Musumba is a lecturer of Literature and Theatre Arts at The School of Arts and Social Sciences at Bomet University College. Obala holds a PhD in African Literature from Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany. He has vast experience in teaching at the university, mentoring students, and research. He recently co-edited a critical book entitled: Emerging Trends in Eastern African Literature and Cultures. Glienicke: Galda Verlag (2020). His other publications include a “Review of Reading Nuruddin Farah: the Individual, the Novel and the Idea of Home” by Fiona Moolla published in the Journal of Eastern African Literary and Cultural Studies (JEALCS) (2017), co-authored a chapter: “The Promise in Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s Speeches: The Struggle for Independence, the Political Journey and Beyond the Presidency” in Critical Readings on Eastern African Autobiography edited by Jairus Omuteche and Tanui Kesero (2016). Dr. Maritim is a seasoned scholar of Literature, with particular interest in the African, Caribbean and African-American literary expressions. He also has substantial interest in the modern and the classical Japanese literature.While his root interest is located within the discipline of Literature, his research reach is interdisciplinary, cutting across the fields of music, history, sociology as well as anthropology, and how all these mat, especially in the contemporary age as mediated by the advancements in the information and communication technology. Dr. Mary Opondo is a Lecturer of Economics in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Bomet University College. She is a holder of a PhD in Economics from Kenyatta University with extensive teaching and research experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Economic Policy and Management from Makerere University. KoechMr. Leonard Koech holds a Master of Arts in Communication (Development Communication) from Daystar University, Kenya and a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Journalism from Moi University. He is currently undertaking Doctoral studies in Communication Studies at Rongo University. He is a Member of the International Communication Association (ICA) and the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK). His research interests include Communication for Development and Social Change, Digital Media and Rural Development as well as Social Media Interactions. He is serving as a Tutorial Fellow in the Department of Arts, Governance and Communication Studies, undertaking research and teaching in Communication studies. onyangoMr. Benard Otieno Onyango holds a Bachelor of Education (Arts) from University of Kabianga, Kenya. Before joining Bomet University College, he served as an employee of the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) St. Paul Akoko Secondary School. He is also experienced in Research, Mapping, Editing and Supervision. Mr. Onyango served as Enumerator with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) specializing in Data entry, editing, and analysis; as well as a Research Assistant in the MAMASASHA programme of the International Potato Centre (CIP), Bungoma County. He has passion in Cartographic Mapping, hence an invaluable asset in the B.A. in Geography programme being offered in the School. Curriculum vitae
